TITIK KOMA
Location: Jakarta - Indonesia - Asia
Titik Koma is a project in Indonesia where both the awareness of HIV/Aids and capacity building in the art sector in Indonesia get a new impetus. It focuses mainly on prostitutes and their role in the spread of the HIV/Aids virus. The project is a partnership between the Javanese theatre group Teater Qi and Komunitas Seni Kota Baru (KSKB) from Kalimantan.
Teater Qi and KSKB are two young organizations working in isolated areas, far away from the well-known cultural centres of Indonesia. In the beginning of the project, both groups worked independently on material for the Titik Koma show. Special attention was paid to the local culture and to the situation concerning HIV/Aids. Research was done in a community of prostitutes. Thereafter, the two groups were merged, leading to a modern theatre show full of movement and music. On World Aids Day, the big première of the piece took place on Kalimantan and received, despite the heavy lightening and rain, much attention.
