Name: Breaking The Silence
Location: Phnom Penh - Cambodia - Asia

The Dutch Annemarie Prins (director) and Nan van Houte (theatre manager and dramaturge) are currently at the partner organization Amrita in Phnom Penh to support them in setting up the theatre production Breaking the Silence.

The performances are part of a coping process from the Pol Pot period. Breaking the Silence aims to bring together the different generations and to encourage reconciliation between (children of) perpetrators and victims. Amrita made the performance Breaking the Silence with an entirely Cambodian crew. After the premiere in Phnom Penh, the theatre production will go on tour for three weeks in at least ten villages, performing in the khmer language. Given the high need for entertainment in Cambodia, Amrita expects that people are willing to travel far to see the performance and that the audience will throng from miles around. Following each performance, the organization DC-C-CAM (Documentation Centre of Cambodia) will provide information and discuss the theme of reconciliation with the villagers.
