Teater Garasi is a theatre laboratory for inspiring and innovative theatre. It has built a good reputation throughout the years with innovative and experimental theatre productions. In the international scene, it has also made a number of productions focusing on content and artistic exchange. Garasi functions as a work place for young actors who are able to develop through Garasi. In addition, it is involved in cultural education of the community.

In 2005, Willeke Colenbrander, active in the Indonesian cultural field for years, produced project MAN IN THE TREE under the umbrella of the Theatre Embassy. This project was about the effects of natural disasters and was a collaboration between Javanese (Garasi), Acehnese (Tikar Pandan) and Dutch (TE). In the summer of 2006, the project was realized and performed in the regions around Yogjakarta. In 2007, Dutch Corrina Manara gave a series of workshops about improvisation to the actors of Garasi, and directed the Seagull by Chekhov.
