BADUNGDUPPA
Location: Rampur, Assam - India - Asia
The Badungduppa theatre finds its basic in stories, dance and music of the Assam tribal culture. The group also has many interchanges with actors and musicians from other tribes and cultural communities such as, Boro and Manipura. The theatre workshop is situated in the country-side, in the area of the Rabha-community.
The artistic director, Sukracharjya Rabha, has in recent years produced different performances which were shown throughout Assam and further areas. The festival "Under the Saltree" the folk theme, was performed for the first time in November 2008. This festival was organized by Badungduppa in cooperation with the theatre organization Kalakeshetra in Manipur.
The group also works to "empowerment" of the community and training of the actors and musicians by offering various workshops. In 2008 the Badungduppa began working with the project ‘The Power of Puppetry' started by Evelien Pullens, whereby young actors were trained in puppetry and visual theatre. This project ended in January 2009 with the presentation of ‘Bijuli' which toured throughout Assam and the South Indian State Karnataka.
