Desierto staged the results of the second phase on the Plaza de Armas on 2 December
Coincidentially on this day a major archeological discovery is made exactly in the centre of Tacna. Radio Periferia is broadcasting 'live' all day to inform the Tacneño's about this remarkable feat that is taking place in their town. A team of highly specialized scientists starts excavating right away. Students carry parts of the Peruvian flag in a 'Marching the Flag' from Orfeon theatre to the Plaza where it is being assembled on location by a team of seamstresses. It is then raised into the huge Arch.
To protect the excavation site from being trampled a construction is erected around it that extends across the Plaza to form a labyrinth. A 'live stream' of video onto the flag shows glimpses of the stunning artefacts that are being unearthened. The assembled crowds are held at bay by a crew of stewards, but at night, one by one, the audience is allowed inside the labyrinth where they can witness scenes from the strange culture that has been discovered. We see a man squeezing juices from exotic fruits that probably served as a drink to the people of the lost culture. Another man is cleaning the strange objects the people wear at their feet, probably to make them shine. A group of people blow on pipes and beat on cilindrical objects, producing a rhythmical sound. The purpose of this sound remains a mystery.
Before the audience leaves the labyrinth they can have a peep at the excavationwork that continues into the night. Hundreds of Tacneño's witnessed this truly amazing event.
